Two more days left,. And we are officially stepping into December, again. The year has been passed, with good with bed, and all we can do , is to look forward in a new year and better future for each of us. But before that we have Christmas to celebrate, well, at least most of us. London is shining in the Christmas lights already, every street seems like a shiny disco ball, but still no Christmas tree, yet. Londoners are waiting for the 1st of December to welcome the special Christmas tree, which is not just a average tree.
So, it has become already as a tradition, that the last 62 years, in Norway in a special ceremony, a pre-selected 50-60 year old pine tree is felled in front of the Mayor of Oslo, the British ambassador to Norway and the Lord Mayor of Westminster. Imagine, this whole process, the tree is carried by ship over the ocean right to England’s Trafalgar Square in London.
It’s one of the most popular Christmas light displays in London, the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree is decorated in a very special Norwegian style, becoming the focal point of Trafalgar Square as crowds gather to sing Christmas carols and make merry. So the lightening up will be at the 1st of December, at 18:30. And the lights will remain on from midday until midnight through all the Christmas season.
If you are in London that time, and if you are, remember you are lucky, every evening carol singers and passers-by congregate around the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree will sing traditional and more modern Christmas carols. Light up your Christmas feeling!
Enjoy London 2012
